CHAS & MediSave at Koh Dental Surgery

Dental care should not be something you put off because of cost. Koh Dental Surgery is a CHAS-accredited clinic & a MediSave-accredited clinic — so a good part of your treatment may be subsidised or claimable at both our NeWest and Jurong East branches. Here is how each one works.

CHAS — Community Health Assist Scheme

If you hold a CHAS Blue, CHAS Orange, Merdeka Generation or Pioneer Generation card, you can claim subsidies on everyday dental treatment at both our clinics. That covers the treatments most people actually need: consultation, scaling and polishing, fillings, extractions, and — depending on your card — root canal treatment, crowns, bridges and dentures.

How it works, in practice: bring your card to your appointment. We verify it, apply the subsidy directly at the counter, and you pay only the balance. There is no form to fill in and nothing to claim back afterwards.

How much you receive depends on which card you hold and which treatment you have. Subsidy rates are set by the Ministry of Health and are reviewed from time to time — we will tell you the exact figure for your treatment before we begin. You can also check the current rates at chas.sg.

Not sure whether you qualify? Eligibility is based on household income and property value, and more households qualify than most people assume. Applications are made through chas.sg — ask us at your visit and we will point you in the right direction.

MediSave for Dental Surgery

We are a MediSave-accredited clinic, so you can use your MediSave — or an immediate family member's — towards surgical dental procedures. The most common is surgical wisdom tooth removal.

Two things are worth understanding up front:

MediSave covers surgical removal, not simple extraction. If a wisdom tooth is fully through and can be lifted out straightforwardly, it is not claimable. If it is impacted, buried, or needs the gum opened, bone removed or the tooth divided to get it out, it usually is.

The X-ray decides, not the pain. A deeply buried wisdom tooth that has never hurt may well qualify. A fully erupted one that aches may not. We take an OPG X-ray at your assessment, and that is what determines which category your case falls into and how much you can claim.

Claim limits are set by the Ministry of Health under the Table of Surgical Procedures and are adjusted periodically. Consultation, X-rays, medication and follow-up reviews sit outside MediSave and are payable separately — though CHAS may subsidise some of those if you hold a card.

We will give you the full picture — claimable amount and cash balance — in writing before you commit to surgery.

Can I Use More Than One?

Often, yes — they cover different things. A CHAS card can subsidise your consultation and X-ray while MediSave covers the surgery itself. We will work out the best combination for your situation and tell you the final figure before treatment starts.

If you are unsure what you hold or what applies, just ask when you book. Sorting this out is a normal part of what our front desk does every day.

Bring Your Card — We'll Do the Rest

Book at NeWest or Jurong East and mention your CHAS, Merdeka & Pioneer  details when you call. We will confirm what you are entitled to before your appointment, so there are no surprises on the day.
